Ecophysiological responses of two closely related epigean and hypogean Niphargus species to hypoxia and increased temperature: Do they differ?

چکیده
Ecological performance of animals depends on physiological and biochemical processes that are adjusted to the environment. The responses hypoxia or anoxia have been frequently studied in subterranean aquatic organisms order find potential adaptations restrict oxygen conditions occurring underground habitats. However, some previous studies compared phylogenetic distant epigean hypogean species populations same due little chance compare closely related species. Therefore, this study, we effects exposure hypoxia, followed by reoxygenation, increased temperature consumption, metabolic activity, antioxidant activities species: Niphargus zagrebensis N. stygius . Oxygen consumption similarly during post-hypoxic recovery at 10 20°C (approx. 5-times), while its for 9.7 4.4-times 20°C, respectively. We observed higher exploitation current reoxygenation than Exposure subsequent catalase (CAT) activity , but not zagrebensis. glutathione reductase both concluded respiratory severe differed between Hypogean possess characteristics advantageous stable environments which support inhabiting low energetic demands, can successfully inhabit specific surface

متن کاملTwo closely related species of desert carpenter ant differ in individual-level allocation to fat storage.
Comparison of closely related species that differ in their life histories is a powerful method for studying the underlying physiological mechanisms contributing to life-history variation. I investigated whether two closely related members of the Camponotus festinatus species complex of desert carpenter ants, C. nr. festinatus Desert Light and C. nr. festinatus Desert Dark, differed in their lif...
متن کاملLevels and patterns of genetic diversity differ between two closely related endemic Arabidopsis species
Theory predicts that a small effective population size leads to slower accumulation of mutations, increased levels of genetic drift and reduction in the efficiency of natural selection. Therefore endemic species should harbor low levels of genetic diversity and exhibit a reduced ability of adaptation to environmental changes. Arabidopsis pedemontana and Arabidopsis cebennensis, two endemic spec...
متن کاملUniversal Grammar and Chaos/Complexity Theory: Where Do They Meet And Where Do They Cross?
Abstract The present study begins by sketching "Chaos/Complexity Theory" (C/CT) and its applica-tion to the nature of language and language acquisition. Then, the theory of "Universal Grammar" (UG) is explicated with an eye to C/CT. Firstly, it is revealed that CCT may or may not be allied with a theory of language acquisition that takes UG as the initial state of language acquisition for ...
